La semana de la pintura se celebró por primera vez en Septiembre de 2017 en conmemoración del 150º aniversario de la llegada del pintor y académico José Garnelo y Alda a este municipio. Durante la semana del 9 al 15 de septiembre, Montilla se llena de diversas actividades en torno a la pintura como exposiciones y concursos. El día 15 tendrá lugar el «III PREMIO NACIONAL DE PINTURA RÁPIDA CIUDAD DE MONTILLA: MEMORIAL JOSÉ S. GARNELO Y ALDA», donde se concentrará el mayor número de pintores/as consagrados a nivel nacional, acercando las técnicas y elaboración de las obras maestras a la ciudadanía.
